The Watchers step forward in unison as the barrier falls, the same as they had with the verdict against Spike. With their presence and a sheen of light and Dust, before the uninvited participants can weave amongst the crowd gathered, the spectres are forced to disperse from the plaza. Their reactions after the light fades vary - Shamsiel with their fingers laced together as they look to the where Diluc remains, Baraqiel's chin lifted to watch the last remnants of the spectres dispense, Suriel tired but holding their head high, ready to face the end.
The shot rings out, final and true, the choice made by a man plagued by his very soul. Erastis shimmers into golden Dust, fading on the wind. The gun and staff both disappear much like the stake had after they were chosen, and it seems like nothing will be left behind.
And that includes the executed, Spike's body turning to Dust like much his daemon - and then there's nothing left.
Spike is dead.
The laughter from before returns, echoing, before the unknown but newly familiar voices turn to song again:
love is truly a powerful thing, enough to defy whatever fate brings. but devotion can take it one step too far, then again, he never knows where the lines are. what he wanted most was simply to be seen, an equal, for once, but he still feels demeaned as a monster who makes yet another mistake but doesn't regret it when his own life's at stake. it's a fight he can't win, so he'll pay the toll. for what does it matter, to lose one more soul?
After the Dust clears, and the song ends with more of that laughter, the Watchers will disappear in a shift of space around them. Diluc and Canopus are left alone in the heart of Star Circle.
