36 Remain

Waking up this morning will reveal some unfamiliar surroundings. Gone is the ancient city—which many learned had come to be named Krankaz—and its salt-caked, rusted, ruined world. Your beds are more comfortable, your things stored away in much finer rooms where light filters in through stained glass. Did you miss sunlight? Fresh air? There's much of it to be found, here. But there seems to be... music faintly playing from somewhere, at all times? Sometimes, the song changes, but it's always of the same quality. How strange...

You all awaken in your beds—although they aren't the beds that you found yourself falling asleep in previously, and you might not even see the same face as you had the previous night. But one by one, as you filter out, you find yourselves in a dusty mansion, this go around. It's almost eerie, with the music in the background softly playing, but it's easy to tune it out as you begin exploring the new world that you've all found yourselves in.

Much like your previous worlds, this one seems a little sparse, in terms of population. Unlike the last one, though, you'll find other occupants—just not here, with you now. But the bright colors of moss, coral, flora, and fauna are replaced by the bright color of stained glass and greenery, a world filled to the brim with life in a different way. The soft rush of water can be heard everywhere along with the melodies of this city, little water mills constantly running even in the canals, though some of them and the machines here seem to be in a little disrepair. Shall we?



In the foyer of this grand mansion, your Watchers of the week can be found—the Celestials. They're ready to receive you, and hopefully see you through this week more safely than the last two. Good morning!

Baraqiel speaks up first, this time, thick cloak closed around themself completely to conceal their wings, and daemon perched eagle-formed on the banister of the stairs. "We've got a name right off for this one, unlike the last one. City's called Otamo—do all of us and yourselves a favor and don't break anything that actually keeps the lights on. Maintaining a city is hard enough without everyone bringing it down around us."

Daemon on their shoulder in squirrel form, Suriel has a smile and a wave for everyone. "It's a nice place, too! Or it was, once. And the music's great - just like being in a video game! Ah, but try not to break into everything? Or at least try put it back like you found it, please."

Resting on Shamsiel's head is their daemon, and they start the day with a polite smile for everyone. "And like always, we're here to help you however we can. So, please, you know how to reach us should there be anything you'd need."

That seems to be all, but before you're released off to go exploring—Baraqiel has one last thing to add: "They're too nice to say it, but I'm not: stop asking Suriel for anything involving blood, whether it's power-related or for food. If you want that shit, ask a different Watcher, and ask Suriel for something else."

Suriel has some quiet protests to that, but they seem to go ignored.


With the new week, travelers will find that they no longer have minor control of the four major elements. Instead, they'll find that they have an unbreakable connection to another participant, one that reveals something many of you work hard to hide. You feel what they feel, and they feel what you feel, both physically and emotionally. What will you do when faced with the terrifying ordeal of being known? This effect lasts all week.

Additionally, there's an aspect of this world you may want to take note of—around the city, primarily in the canals, are broken panes and shards of glass that are... different. These can be retrieved out of the water, or off the banks, or from broken fixtures to no detriment to yourselves. However, you'll find that interacting with them shares a fragment of a memory from your point of view with those around you, genuine and true. The music of Otamo adapts to each memory, and may drown out any spoken word in the memory (though you may play with the intensity of this, to allow for some dialogue to be audible), but with how most shards are small enough to be held in the hand, they have a transportable potential to them. You may bring your memshare to others, whether by accident or on purpose.

[ It may have this bit of fish. It may have more ffish, in exchange for a little ear scratchy. ]

[the ear scratchy is also well received as the cat wolfs down the fish like he's never had a meal in his whole life despite the fact he looks pretty well taken care of recently.

unfortunately for power, her peaceful venture with the cat is soon interrupted by the sound of someone approaching and sounding incredibly unimpressed.]

Swindling more tourists? [the cat chooses to ignore the newcomer because power has fish and clearly likes cats.]

[ Power gives little kitty another bit of fish, and stands up with her hand on her hip. ]

I am not swindling, nor am I a tourist! [ Power you can't be both sides of this. ]

[dragonaire]

[the cat has decided that this boy is on his own, which, like, thanks? thanks for nothing, you useless furball. the boy opens and closes his mouth a few times as if trying to figure out what he actually wants to say before he lifts an eyebrow.]

Alright, then...what are you? [power cannot be both sides, but go on. explain.]

[powerplay]

I am a devil, of course.

[ Oh of course. Let's just throw a third, non-sequitur option in there just to spice things up a little, shan't we? She thinks the 'cat' is very valid and he can do whatever he wants forever. ]

[dragonaire]

[um?]

...a devil. [power explain??? especially since hiccup looks vaguely alarmed but also, sadly, a little intrigued. this also means he is absolutely just staring at her now so that's fine and totally normal, oh my god, hiccup, maybe stop being weird for a few minutes.]

[powerplay]

[ No.

Except she sort of does, I guess. ]

Precisely! I am the Blood Fiend!

[ It's barely a clarification. Fortunately, or unfortunately (take your pick), Power is totally unfazed by this nerdboy's staring. ]

[dragonaire]

Uh huh. [this explains nothing.] And what exactly does the Blood Fiend do if they're not a tourist wandering around the mill?

[the cat by now has finished his fish, licking his lips and starting to snoop around to see if power will drop more for him.]

[powerplay]

Hmm, I kill vermin and nuisances and make humans who hate cats suffer, I guess. I cannot be a tourist because I did not willingly come here.

[ Not that she really fully understands what constitutes a tourist anyway? But here's Ritty, who won't fight the cat for food rights or anything, but is curiously sniffing with his tail swaying behind him. ]

[dragonaire]

Hilarious. Being a Blood Fiend sort of sounds like being a cat. Buuut I don't know if that means you aren't a tourist? You came out here to the water mill willingly, didn't you?

[oh...friend...? the black kitten slowly wanders up to ritty before sniffing back and squeaking. hello?]

[powerplay]

I would love to be a cat if it means being permitted to do as I like and sit in the sun all day.

[ This is a pointed comment at Meowy. But she just looks at him. ]

Hmm... define 'tourist'.

[ Ritty will mrrow. He is also Power, so of course he will gladly be friends with this black cat. While Power is off antagonising Hiccup, Ritty transforms briefly into a black fox just so he can stick his head into her bag slung over her shoulder and retrieve another piece of dried fish, dropping it in front of the black cat. ]

[dragonaire]

Not to mention appearing cute and innocent to con everyone into feeding you. [it's a pointed comment to the black kitten, too, so understandable.] Anyway tourists are usually people that come around, stay for a little while, and then they leave all over again. They never stay for long though.

[he would continue, but he's watching his little cat. said-kitten will pause to watch the fox before deeming him acceptable and pouncing on the fish to eat it.

hiccup, meanwhile, is just alarmed all over again.]

...sooooo...does your cat normally do that...?

[powerplay]

[ Oh thanks for the compliment Hiccup. What? It wasn't a compliment? Too late, it's taken as one. ]

Of course, I am very cute and I am also very innocent. [ Extremely debatable. I would say people don't feed her for those reasons, but some people kind of do here. ]

I guess that does make us tourists... but we don't come around, stay, and leave because we want to.

[ Though, the daemon commentary is weird. ]

Have you never seen it happen? All of us have this, even the Watchers.

[dragonaire]

[power is absolutely valid and i agree with her even if hiccup doesn't. he makes a face because no, that's not what he meant? except then she's moving on and his curiosity gets the better of him.]

Nope. Nope, definitely not. [maybe other people have, but he personally has not.] What is it?

[powerplay]

[ Please. She has to be stopped. ]

Seriously? You guys don't get any? Maybe we're just better? [ Stop mean to Hiccup. ] They're daemons. We just kind of showed up with them when we woke up two cities ago.

[dragonaire]

Now wait a minute! [WOW. but huh. okay.] And you don't think that's a little weird...?

[powerplay]

It's super weird. [ Can't deny that! ] But it's been two weeks, thinking 'why do we have this' isn't gonna make Ritty go away. Besides, Ritty's great!

[dragonaire]

[you know what, fair enough.]

And does Ritty change into anything else?

[powerplay]

[ On cue, Ritty does a little yip and shifts into a blond dog. His tail wags somewhat lazily behind him. ]

Be amazed, boy! Ritty is very talented!

[dragonaire]

[dog! hiccup is immediately enamored with this dog, kneeling a little to get a closer look and also holding his hand out to see if ritty responds at all.]

That is pretty impressive. [he glances at the cat.] What do you think, bud? Kind of a shame you can't do the same huh?

[the cat is sizing ritty up now that he's changed forms before wobbling toward him, reaching up to try and nose at him.]

[powerplay]

[ Hiccup gets a KICK TO THE HAND!!!!!!!!!! No seriously though. It's not like, ridiculously hard or anything but she's just wedging her foot between there. ]

No touching, are you crazy?! Are you trying to make me sick?! You're the worst!

[ BE NICE TO HIM. Ritty barks once at Hiccup though in agreement. These NPCs don't have daemons so they didn't get the no-touching memo. Though, at the least, Ritty will wag his tail lonce at the cat and lean down to nudge it lightly with his nose. ]

[dragonaire]

[it's absolutely what he deserves even if he immediately takes his hand back and frowns deeply. jeez! the cat seems a little amused, giving a tailflick as hiccup gets scolded and squeaking at ritty instead. haha, he wins.]

Well you didn't explain that part! What was I supposed to think?

[powerplay]

You're just supposed to know! We do!

[ What do you mean her rules aren't applying to you?! Beside her, Ritty does another short woof. ]

[dragonaire]

That...that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. [that's not how rules work! he should know, he's an expert at breaking most of them. but that's a little concerning.]

Touching them can really make you sick?

[powerplay]

[ Dang we could be breaking the rules together. ]

It's a weird feeling, it's bad. [ Apparently she can only describe it as 'bad', at least if she's not further pressed. She points at Ritty, then at Meowy. ] Touching, bad. Touching, good!
