ahnkeen: week 3 mingle in the sands of time

Waking up this morning will reveal some unfamiliar surroundings. The soft ripples of the canals and dulcet tones of otamatone fade from your ears, replaced by a steady, dry breeze and the ambient noise of the local populace filtering in through open windows. Another thing you'll notice is that it's warm - very warm. Light dress is recommended here.

You all awaken in your beds—although they aren't the beds that you found yourself falling asleep in previously, and you might not even see the same face as you had the previous night. But one by one, as you filter out, you find yourselves in a house, a bit on the older side but still comfortable. The decor is neutral and inoffensive, much like you'd expect of a place that sees many visitors.

Unlike the previous worlds you've visited, Ahnkeen is a bustling, busy place, full of people of all sorts - and not all are human, so please check your biases at the door. Though the world around them is dry and scarce of resources, the market town itself is alive and well, business booming, and the merchants here keep a close eye on their wares in case of any thieves.



Traversing down the streets of the housing district are the Temporals. For the most part they seem ready to receive everyone. Throwing their hands into the air and meandering down Rameel will be spearhead the introductions this time—their puma daemon trailing behind them. As an extra treat, they'll even seem to have their “black box” from previous with them this fine morning on full blast.

"Hello, hello everyone! WELCOME TO AHNKEEN!! The home to the great markets...probably. I hope more of you are used to these scenery changes by now, and by popular demand are your favorite Temporals. We've changed the set for the hat trick, but we won't stop there."

Satariel is standing close to Yomiel, their undercloak absent and their daemon raven-formed on their shoulder - it squawks after Rameel yells the welcome, but they offer everyone a warm smile. They do reach over to... turn down the "black box" of Rameel's, without looking, smile still intact. "For those of you that kept your things from previous worlds, especially the treasure from our adventures underwater, you might find that they come in handy here. We are in a market, after all."

The last Watcher has also shed their undercloak, staring at Rameel while their polecat daemon chitters. "Anyway," they turn to the rest with a vague gesture at Satariel. "Try not to steal too much this time. The last few worlds were pretty quiet, but you might run into trouble with the locals here if you keep that up."


With the new week, travelers will find that they are no longer connected physically and emotionally to another participant. As opposed to being drawn to one person in particular, they'll find themselves with the need to be physically close to any other participant they speak to. Go on, hold their hand, get your snuggle on - it'll make you feel better. This effect lasts all week.

[ Sche takes Kim's advice and nyooms to where, ostensibly, such pre-made mixes would be. The customer is demanding to speak to a manager.

'Mix one part sugarcane juice mix with one part water' - ok. easy. Sche is very frantic in giving the customer their drink. ]

[ i forgot to mention a very important detail for this thread which is that xie lian's hair looks like this.

anyway!! he's with sche on this one, immediately bowing. ] Yes, thank you! We apologize for the trouble - oh!

[ another customer. this one wants a mocha, whatever that is. xie lian's ancient chinese ass is not prepared for this so he goes scurrying to look at the menu. ] Mocha, mocha, mocha... Um, is that - caffeinated? Where is it...!

Yeah! Let me get that really quick!

[ flat will hop away, looking through the store for the drink. it's taking some time, and the customer is yelling about the wait but, again, flat does not seem to care. ]

Found it~! Mochas are fun because they taste like chocolate you know?

[ someone please take it from him. ]

[Cool. Kim takes the mocha and hands it to the customer.]

Your drink.

[He doesn't blink when they snap at him and snatch the mocha from his hand.]

[ 2/20! one tenth of the way there! the next costumer wants something easy: tea. that's it. sche knows how to make that! so she skitters off to make a cup. ]

[ that customer wasn't as huffy, so, hey! maybe they can get the hang of this! 3/20. ]

[ xie lian is learning so much about coffee today! he smiles at the rest of the group, and especially sche when her customer is not a huge butthead. ]

[ they've got this!

somewhere in the background, as he says that, there is a pshhhh... noise that sounds suspiciously like falling water. xie lian looks up. ] ...Does anyone else hear that...?

[ flat is currently talking to another customer. perhaps their flailing has made other customers take some pity on them, or maybe they’re just lucky twice in a row, because this one just wants a medium black coffee. ]

Sure, coming right up! Miss Storyteller! One medium black coffee!

[ he’ll then turn to xie lian, smiling. ]

What did you say?

[At the same time, a new customer demands a cappuccino, which Kim quickly sets about preparing.]

I hear something, yes...

[But he doesn't see the source.]

[ sche turns to try and locate the source, when suddenly! water starts spraying from the joint in the pipe that has failed.

she turns to face to customer again. ]

I'm sorry, please bear with us as we work through this minor inconvenience.

[ but, with flat and kim's orders prepared, that will bring them up to 5/20. and to make matters worse, they get a group of three girls this time, all wanting overly complicated sugary drinks, like a nonfat sugar free double chocolate caramel vanilla crunch trio twist frap or some shit. ]

[ running water is still kind of shocking to xie lian, so imagine his surprise when it just explodes. ]

Wah—!! [ hello why this?!?! he is kind of useless in the coffee making department but wrangling a pipe he can probably do, so xie lian makes a dive for the pipe, san lang squealing and ducking under the collar of his shirt. ] What happened?!

Here - help me hold it in place!

[ flat runs towards xie lian, trying to hold his hands over the other’s. ]

W-what do we do!?

Figure something out. We've got a situation here, too...

[The "situation" being the puzzle of how to prepare these ludicrous customized drinks. Kim's brow creases as he focuses on the task and successfully blocks out some sassy criticisms.]

If we do it like this, with two people handling each crisis, we may be able to get through it!

but sche is nyooming to kim's side to help him with the drinks. ]

Perhaps putting all the flavors in the coffee? Although I do not know how to make a "frap."

team xie lian and flat, team two halves of a whole idiot, is apparently going to get this pipe fixed! maybe!! xie lian has never seen a goddamn pipe in his life but he is strong enough to wrench weakened metal into place, so - despite the fact that he is being sprayed with water, he grabs onto one part of the burst pipe and starts looking around while he tries to wrench the broken bit downwards.

the water level in this cafe is beginning to rise. this is fine. ] Flat - how does this work?! Can we make it stop?!

A frappuccino has ice! Use the blender!

[ IS HE THE ONLY MODERN DAY CHARACTER HERE!? ]

Ah, uhm…j-just hold on a second! I’ll look!

[ he’ll let go of xie lian’s hand, to look for a knob? god his hair and clothes are soaked but who cares at this point. ]

M-maybe if we shut the water, we can figure out the rest later!

[ he sees a knob! but— ]

[Kim is mostly modern! He can blend, and so he does. The drinks are made. He pretends not to perceive the other ongoing crisis.]

[ kim and sche just out here choosing not to perceive the idiot crisis. ]

[ the gaggle of girls take their drinks and leave in a huff. 8/20.

the next customers are a couple on a tea date. thankfully black and green tea are easy to make, but one of them gets increasingly more demanding over their poor partner having to wait for the kettle to brew. he is fortunate that sche is not vengeful and fills the pot with spraying pipe water, although she wants to. 10/20. ]

[ well xie lian is officially soaked. his nice white robes? you can like. see through them. amazing. who asked for a wet t-shirt contest.

he is thankfully unaware of it as he is trying to guess how to turn the water off and it is still spraying him everywhere. ]

Left? [ he has no idea ] Try that!

Waah, I’ll try that!!!!

[ if flat can even get his hand on the knob that is…

well, it seems that he can, and he gently turns it left. ]

I-is it working?!

[The next customer to arrive asks for "the usual." An oddly-heated staring contest ensues between them and Kim, and it isn't until a full minute later that they finally bark out their order: a caramel macchiato.

Kim nods, makes and serves it, and it's on to the next customer.]

[ 11/20. ]

I think we may need to figure out a solution to the water problem a bit more quickly, if possible.

[ She isn't here to to help tho, as the next costumer comes up and asks for an espresso, which they call an "expresso." 12/20. ]

the water proceeds to come out even faster. xie lian squawks as he wrenches the pipe with his left hand so it goes towards the ceiling, creating a rainbow effect from the lights and also it's raining now. ]

No, not left, not left, not left!!!
