29 Remain
We hope that, with the start of your fifth week traveling across worlds, that you would be used to waking up in unfamiliar surroundings. The arid heat and bustling noise of the markets are gone now, the luxurious beds replaced with more gently broken in ones. You've got yourself a new bedmate—or two—but there's a different sort of buzz outside your door. Opening it will reveal a lively and colorful tavern full of other people, not just you and your fellow travelers.
Exiting the tavern shows a city full of all manner of people—much like Ahnkeen, this is a world made of different races you could only dream of or had left behind. The square is full of life and commotion, people, creatures. The Watchers aren't alone in being winged people, but there are elves, ogres, dwarves, worgs, and even small bird-like beings that chirp in greeting and carry out their business.
And there's a lot of business! Everyone around you is busily working on... something. Stalls are being set up and filled to the brim with masks, fancy dresses and suits, accessories, food, games. Hawkers at these stands advertise further business to be found in the actual storefronts, and many more give out free samples of food and drink, along with flowers to give to one another. A grand, wrought iron gate has been affixed to the castle gate's open doors, decorated in wrapped bundles of flowers and tree boughs, white silks draped to flow freely in the wind, with various offerings placed on either side of them.
Further exploration of the city will come to the realization that it is very much a city in the sky. All around you are rust brown and deep mahogany wood trees, in full autumnal colors, but the forest is broken up on floating islands all along the southern edge of the walled-in city. It's beautiful, but dangerous, and the locals and guards posted will advise you to watch where you're going so that you don't fall off the edge of the world.
And maybe keep an eye on your things. Unfortunately, the grifflets are not the only winged things here. While there are pegasi and wyvern and small dragons, assorted vermin can be spotted throughout the city, winged as well to have adapted to their environment. They are bold, and prone to biting.

Waiting for you to join them in the town square, outside of the Prancing Pegasi, are Baraqiel and Suriel. Shamsiel is not with them currently. Neither of them seem to be reacting to the effect for the week, even if it's abundantly clear that they are also affected by it, the same as you. Their hoods have been modified for the new additions to their persons—two slits with clasps to allow them to easily remove or adjust their hoods for... ears.
Baraqiel speaks up first, a pair of dark but gold-dusted and straight ears standing upright on their head. One of them twitches a little, an earing jingling faintly with the movement. They appear to be healed of their injuries, from the stay in Otamo, or at least enough that they aren't visible any longer. "Welcome to Camebit, apparently. Don't completely ruin everything this week, like you did Ahnkeen."
Are they joking? A little, but also not, as they continue. "I mean it. They're preparing for the Masquerade of Souls, so at least try to be respectful for once—I'm not going to claim responsibility for any of you if you manage to piss off the locals during their equivalent of a Ghost Festival."
Suriel also appears to have been mostly healed, having ditched the splint and crutch in the new week. Their squirrel daemon sits between a pair of cat ears in glittering, dusty gold that poke out from under their hood. "This festival is really important to them, so try to get along with them, okay? It might even give us something to look forward to!" After a moment, they add, "And don't worry too much about Shamsiel. They'll be okay, they just... need a little time."

Ready for your effect of the week? From the moment you wake up, until you've arrived in another world, everyone will get to be a furry. Hooray! This means you take on physical traits of a single animal—some leeway is allowed for creatures that characters would know from their worlds and creatures of mythology, the same as with your daemons—as well as some of their behavioral traits. This can include ears, horns, tails, wings, et al. Per law ("what law?" my law), you will only have one set of ears. This isn't Loveless.
Additionally, there will be A Thing posted on Tuesday. Please stay tuned for further information—but be ready to get fancy for a masquerade.

he's drawn to the familiar clanging of the smithy, watching the blacksmith at work and perhaps a little homesick... oh well. ]

this hair business is new but he's figured out some things.]
1/2
that sounds familiar... ]
2/2
[ he leans in to look now ]
How'd you get that stuck in your hair... do you need some help with it?
no subject
greg huffs, putting a hand clumsily on the ring to keep it in place.]
no subject
That's right! Oh, well, surely that'd be better on your finger, don't you think? So you can keep it safe.
[ he'll wiggle his own, see? ]
I'd hate for you to lose your crown.
no subject
greg... squints? oh. you wear them on your hands?? what.
he reaches up to touch the ring, and then wrinkles his nose because he really did tangle it in there. help.]
no subject
You've really gotten this stuck quite badly on your head, poor thing... I'm glad you liked it so much, though.
[ he's used to tangles, look at his hair, he'll figure this out!!! it'll just. take a bit. ]
no subject
he waits patiently, though. it's pretty tangled, but that's okay, kaeya can manage to grab it eventually!]
no subject
There we go. Now. Give me your hand. We'll find what finger to put it on!
[ he holds out his own palm for greg's hand, and once given over, he will try to find! which finger it fits best on! ]
no subject
a happy squeak when kaeya manages to get it out! he seems to be very fond of whatever you all give him. he holds out his hand, in that same sort of clumsy way. motor function is hard.
greg seems fine with whatever finger kaeya puts it on.]
no subject
he'll go ahead and take greg's hand and begin to test the ring out until he finally picks his index finger! sliding it on, he'll lift up greg's hand for him to have a look. ]
See? Now you won't lose it and you won't have to tie it in your lovely hair... being in such a form must be troublesome for you, but you're doing quite a good job so far, I'd say.
no subject
once the ring is on, though, greg admires it, happily enough. and then he pats kaeya on the head, like everybody always pats greg. thank you!!]
no subject
[ big sigh is such a mood. when the headpat comes, he instantly realizes--this is most likely the only way greg has received positive feedback or thanks right? being a frog and all. he'll happily accept the petting. ]
Say, Greg, do you miss your sticky tongue?

it's not cuddle week anymore but lup comes up to lean against him anyway, totally unrepentant. she peers at the blacksmith as well, and then tilts her head to look at kaeya.]
... All good? [thought u saw the last of her]
no subject
Oh, you know, new week, new curse, no doubt new victims as well... I suppose I'm trying to enjoy my time before I get to work.
[ he'll sling an arm around her as well. affection week? he's always affectionate. his tail whacks her. sorry. ]
What do you think of the place, Lup?
no subject
New week, new curse! I'm a little jealous, I want a pair of fox ears. [huff.] I like this place! It feels... more familiar? I don't know why.
Have you seen the view? We're on an island. It's wild.
no subject
[ he lifts a hand and even pokes around the top of her head playfully. hm. pokes her elf ears. just a bit. ]
I suppose you'll just have to share mine.
[ he wiggles them just for show. it's a lot easier to wiggle these ears. one of them even has a little earring. ]
That being said, I haven't! Will you show me?
no subject
[she laughs when he futzes with her hair, pinching him in the side for his transgressions? watch the hair!!
also, when he touches the ears, the tips of them go pink, and one of them flicks, involuntarily. sensitive...]
Of course I will. [share, or show? yes. she'll just take his hand and tug him off towards the direction of the ramparts.]
no subject
Maybe you don't want to be part of our "cool kids" group, it's probably safer that way anyways.
[ can't be cool if ur dead, lup, but he won't linger. ]
You said this place feels familiar! How so?
no subject
she looks a little more somber at that first bit. she'd seen this last execution, and she agrees. maybe it's better to not be on the chopping block. still.]
I don't know. There's something about, uh - about the high fantasy stuff that really gets me in the old kokoro. [she links their fingers absently as they walk.] Feels like... home, in a way.
Not like Otamo home, just - in a different sense, if that makes sense.
no subject
Like some distant memory, perhaps...?
This place reminds me a bit of home too--the smithy, the people, the excitement about this festival. You'll go with us too, right? I know you love a good party.
no subject
Yeah. A little like that. [like a distant memory. she glances back at him, with a little grin.] Oh, of course, boo. I'd have to be really tied up to avoid a party!
Maybe I should be looking for a mask of some sort around here...
no subject
[ heh, pink is a good color on her. he makes note and has a quick look around, his ears swiveling just a bit to listen for anyone calling out from the stands. ]
Do you want to be mysterious? Or perhaps silly? Or maybe you could also be an animal, just like us. The options are only limited with your imagination and what's available, right?
[ his tail wags, he likes the vibe of this humming city. ]
no subject
[she says, thoughtfully.]
I could go the full furry route and do - hm, what is my fursona, I wonder. Maybe a ferret, but that's not very sexy of me. Not all of us can be wolves and foxes, which are the easiest of animals to ho-ify. On the other hand, I could really play up the phoenix imagery...
[hums.]
