week six: trial life's a squeeze

Good morning, everyone! Hopefully you're well-rested, because there's a long day ahead of you.

The start of the day is yours to do with what you want, but come 11:45 AM, your daemons will feel a compulsion to lead you to a courthouse, north of the library, and will ensure that you're up and moving to head there. You can certainly resist it, but by the time 11:55 AM rolls around... you'll find your feet taking you there, regardless, if you aren't there already. There's no exceptions—it seems that this gathering is mandatory, as you'll find that your fellow travelers are all heading to the same destination as you.

Waiting in one of the courtrooms for your arrival are Shamsiel, Suriel, and Baraqiel. Some evidence tables have been brought in and arranged, left empty for the day ahead - save for one, where plates, bowls, cups, and cutlery have been stacked neatly for later in the day. Some already have hot tea, takeout containers from various places around the city set out and perpetually warm (or cool, as needed), and some first aid kits for the more unfortunate to come in feeling a little under the weather. Come noon, once everyone is within the room, they'll find that the doors close and lock behind them.

Suriel stands to one side, hands clasped as if ready to say a prayer, wings tucked close. They have no smiles to offer today. "This should be the last time. Let's do what we can, so they won't have to wait for long to see you again."

"Right, as tired as all of you have become, there's an end in sight from all of this." Words that Shamsiel offers as a means to improve the mood some. They stand with a hand pressed to their chest while the other clenches at their side.

Baraqiel is quiet for a moment, seated on the judge's bench - not at it, on the edge of it, with wings and cloak spilling back on the other side as they survey the group gathered. The juror's stand is empty, and so is the audience seating. Everyone can fill in where they need to, or want to, for the next nine hours. "A-Qing and Scheherazade were Temporals. Kim Dokja was a Celestial. This is the final stretch - but that doesn't mean you can halfass it. Let's go."

Every hour that passes, they'll be able to hear a grand clock chiming from somewhere within the courthouse. The pressure's on—good luck.

Trial start

Court is now in session. Welcome, everyone, to our seventh trial! For the next nine hours, characters are expected to investigate the setting, compile and examine evidence, locate any unalive and unaccounted for members of their group, and theorize about the going ons of Thursday night/Friday morning that lead up to this point.

Mod breaks will run a little differently than they have in past games. There will be a three hour block starting at 4 PM EST/1 PM PST and ending at 7 PM EST/4 PM PST, where we'll be cycling one mod out at a time to take an hour long break while the other two remain to keep tags going and answer any questions players might have. We encourage players to take a break at any point during this timeframe, but the player-designated break will be at the traditional 5 - 6 PM EST time! Reference our timezones if need be.

Voting is mandatory in Chasma, acting as our activity check for the week. Please ensure that you've submitted your vote before 9 PM EST/6 PM PST, unless you've spoken with the mods previously, as we'll begin tallying votes on the dot.

[ the dead body of a-qing (does not) look back at him. she'll be wearing her robes and a hoodie over them. ]

[ He unbuttons the sleeves of his shirt and rolls them up. He'll also be setting his coat down nearby. Timebending he has on rubber gloves for this body check as well. He'll be looking over the clothes first for any signs of ... well. Damage or other clues on them. Hair? Other fabric? Blood? ]

[ nothing about a-qing will look too strange. her clothing will suit the state of which they found her, resting peacefully, without any tears or damages to it. well, the damage will be done in one place and one place only—her chest. it will be where there is be a blood stain. ]

[ WE ARE HERE... And he will also use Kim's (olde) if he needs. Gloves on, etc.

He raises his eyebrows to see that there's like. Something sizable under the sheets? ]

... I'm surprised that this time you would leave a body behind. I had anticipated ashes, or maybe nothing at all.

[ Sheets off! Tell me the what he can notice from a first general glance. How bloody are his clothes? Is there anything obvious? ]

[ at first glance, he'll see that kim dokja is in his demon king form, with wings and horns! otherwise, it's his normal look with the white coat, black shirt, plus a black scarf around his neck.

the most obvious wound is, of course, the stab wound from his own sword. one of his wings appears to be broken, as well. this bird cannot fly again.

kim dokja does not answer yoo joonghyuk. ]

[ OF COURSE THE CORPSE DOESN'T ANSWER? But he's quiet, like he's expecting something to be said anyway. Niah is also sniffing around this area, looking for something or someone lost.

First he checks pockets. Anything in these pockets (coat, shirt, and pants) that he didn't stuff into Joonghyuk's pockets? Like a fool? ]

[ i can't read but there is also a bit of daemon dust on the front of his shirt.

in his pockets are a cell phone, and a photo of dokja and joonghyuk at the arcade with their daemons in fox and wolf form. the latter has a bloody fingerprint on it. ]

[ Since Niah has accepted he won't find anything, he sits next to Joonghyuk as he stares at the photo, then he moves on. Hm... How much battery does phone have left? Can he turn it on?

He places the photo on a side? table? And looks at Dokja's hands to see if either of them are bloody, or if his fingertips are. ]

xie lian will say a quiet prayer before going to remove the sheet. what's the first overall sweep here in terms of injuries? ]

[ well first of all, she's dressed up in some very fashion forward clothing. however, unfortunately for her, her white top has been stained red with blood; she'll appear to be barefooted as well. ]

he will start off by carefully checking over her head and face for injuries, as well as run his fingers very carefully through her hair. is she still wearing the headpiece jewelry? is there any staining? or is everything in order - is her hair messy at all?

beyond that, he'll quickly check her mouth and her eyes to make sure there's nothing too strange there. he will very carefully and respectfully remove her top - i'm guessing it's ripped considering she had the staff. in her. right.

what's the state of her torso? where's the staff injury exactly?

also i just saw kim's comment so just marking to say he is wearing gloves and using the supplies!! ]

[ she looked great on her death day and congrats on your gloves!!

fortunately whoever killed her left her lovely face alone and she will still be wearing her headpiece. as xie lian feels runs his fingers through her hair, he won't feel anything amidst about it. no strange bumps or indents, and for her hair itself, it will just look a bit "standard messy".

her mouth comes out clean and eyes are also just the typical glazed that one can find from a deceased person. as for her top—will be mostly torn around her chest area where she was stabbed, and expectantly where the blood will have pooled the most.

it will be a single hole and a deep one due to...staff. ]

[Like always, Kim's setting out some tools in case anyone wants to use them for body examinations:

a pair of rubber gloves, a scalpel, forceps, and scissors. (regular scissors, not medical)]

Super Cyanide Science Time

[Time to do some science and check for lividity!

Kim's checking these bodies for that telltale bluish-purpley tinge to the skin that happens when blood pools after death. However, if one of these bodies had poison in their blood, it might look a little different!

Carbon monoxide poisoning would make it a cherry red. Cyanide poisoning, pinkish. Nitrate poisoning, brownish. Hydrogen sulfate poisoning, greenish.

We found some cyanide. Any of these bodies showing pinkish lividity...?]
