week six: trial life's a squeeze

Good morning, everyone! Hopefully you're well-rested, because there's a long day ahead of you.

The start of the day is yours to do with what you want, but come 11:45 AM, your daemons will feel a compulsion to lead you to a courthouse, north of the library, and will ensure that you're up and moving to head there. You can certainly resist it, but by the time 11:55 AM rolls around... you'll find your feet taking you there, regardless, if you aren't there already. There's no exceptions—it seems that this gathering is mandatory, as you'll find that your fellow travelers are all heading to the same destination as you.

Waiting in one of the courtrooms for your arrival are Shamsiel, Suriel, and Baraqiel. Some evidence tables have been brought in and arranged, left empty for the day ahead - save for one, where plates, bowls, cups, and cutlery have been stacked neatly for later in the day. Some already have hot tea, takeout containers from various places around the city set out and perpetually warm (or cool, as needed), and some first aid kits for the more unfortunate to come in feeling a little under the weather. Come noon, once everyone is within the room, they'll find that the doors close and lock behind them.

Suriel stands to one side, hands clasped as if ready to say a prayer, wings tucked close. They have no smiles to offer today. "This should be the last time. Let's do what we can, so they won't have to wait for long to see you again."

"Right, as tired as all of you have become, there's an end in sight from all of this." Words that Shamsiel offers as a means to improve the mood some. They stand with a hand pressed to their chest while the other clenches at their side.

Baraqiel is quiet for a moment, seated on the judge's bench - not at it, on the edge of it, with wings and cloak spilling back on the other side as they survey the group gathered. The juror's stand is empty, and so is the audience seating. Everyone can fill in where they need to, or want to, for the next nine hours. "A-Qing and Scheherazade were Temporals. Kim Dokja was a Celestial. This is the final stretch - but that doesn't mean you can halfass it. Let's go."

Every hour that passes, they'll be able to hear a grand clock chiming from somewhere within the courthouse. The pressure's on—good luck.

Trial start

Court is now in session. Welcome, everyone, to our seventh trial! For the next nine hours, characters are expected to investigate the setting, compile and examine evidence, locate any unalive and unaccounted for members of their group, and theorize about the going ons of Thursday night/Friday morning that lead up to this point.

Mod breaks will run a little differently than they have in past games. There will be a three hour block starting at 4 PM EST/1 PM PST and ending at 7 PM EST/4 PM PST, where we'll be cycling one mod out at a time to take an hour long break while the other two remain to keep tags going and answer any questions players might have. We encourage players to take a break at any point during this timeframe, but the player-designated break will be at the traditional 5 - 6 PM EST time! Reference our timezones if need be.

Voting is mandatory in Chasma, acting as our activity check for the week. Please ensure that you've submitted your vote before 9 PM EST/6 PM PST, unless you've spoken with the mods previously, as we'll begin tallying votes on the dot.

Fucking— [ Have you wonder where Akira's temper has gone because there it is and there is him punching a wall (away from room 08!). This is fine.

Akira's going to take a moment cause he probably should not destroy evidence and crouch down to the floor on his knees. While he's here, anything on the floor/ground? ]

[ nothing on the floor/ground for akira to find, but baraqiel does stay with him until he's prepared to move on.

kim can still investigate the door - and it is room 08, yes. they should all be aware that the doors open inwards, as one would expect a residential door to be. this one is barely hanging on by a thread, having been ripped off the hinges, so there's some splintered wood from the frame on the ground.

but there's a smudge of blood clearly left behind by a hand on the door. ]

[Kim waits a few moments, watching Akira quietly... and then moves on.]

Did someone kick in the door...?

[Sholmes did it. Pack it up, boys. We gottem.

Anyway, is the smudge of blood hand-shaped? What side of the door is it on, and whereabouts? As they step inside, anything obviously amiss with the apartment from what they can see?]

[ He's fine. When he gathers himself up to see the blood there's a grimace, but he'll just make note of that for now. ]

More like fucking ripped it off. [ Since Kim has got the door, Akira will step carefully into the room and look around. ]

[grigori]

[ akira's guess is more likely - there's no shoe prints or any external damage on the door, itself, except for the blood. and that sure is a hand, kim! but it's smudged, so you probably won't be getting an accurate size or prints from it.

it's on the frame itself, on the left side. no visible thumb mark, so hard to tell which direction it came in, especially since some of it has been further smudged by the door damages.

some of the furniture has been pushed around or knocked over, but there's not too much disarray here. ]

[Hm.

Well, he'll take a look at the ceiling, the walls, and the floor further in.]

I'm gonna move these to see if there's anything underneath. Write down how they were before in case we need it. [ He trusts Kim to be Kim and take notes, and then he's gonna move the furniture to see if they were hiding anything. He'll also check to see if there's any stains/etc on them. ]

[grigori]

[ baraqiel leans against the wall by the door, to stay out of the way and not touch any of the evidence, watching them go through.

nothing on the ceiling or walls. there's some scuffs from the furniture, on the floor, and some wood bits from the door and frame. but as they begin checking the shoebox apartment, they both might notice a... faint smell? it's a little bitter and a little sweet at the same time. ]

Do you smell something?

[Because Kim does. He'll try checking... the kitchenette? Anything look like a source of the smell here?]

Yeah, I do.

[ Furniture check completed! Since this place is small, Akira will check out the bathroom to see if the smell is from over here. ]

[grigori]

[ the smell is not coming from this side of the apartment (since these spots are next to each other, luckily and grossly). in a game of hot and cold, they are cold. ]

[voltadomar]

Nothing in the kitchen.

[Checking... bed and couch area?

Also, while he's at it, checking window(s), since they're presumably the only other exit to the apartment.]

Or the bathroom.

[ Can Nagako scent where it's coming from? She's a snake right now. ]

[grigori]

[ nagako gives a little flicky flicky of her tongue, and she can help confirm that kim's direction is the correct one. hot and cold game: you're warmer, broaching on hotter. it's closer to the bed and its storage area.

nothing amiss with the windows. ]

[Kim follows Nagako's lead and will try checking the blanket/pillow storage space...?

Or if Akira wants to, he'll step back and let him do it, since that guy's got two hands for rummaging if rummaging is required.]

[ Nagako is a good girl. He'll move closer following her lead but let Kim rummage first. ]

If you need help I'll take over.

[ ding ding ding! the bitter, sweet smell is here, though we do recommend being careful in the rummaging. kim and akira will find a broken syringe in amongst the extra blankets and pillows. ]

A syringe...?

[Kim steps back and squints. Did this broken syringe leak anything on the blankets and pillows? Any colour to the fluid, if there is some?]

[bloodread]

The hell? [ He's glad he always wear gloves even if he's not searching. He'll continue watching but if Nagako can point them anywhere else, he'll point that out too! ]

[grigori]

[ nagako will be mostly flicky flicky at the storage, as nothing else gets her attention. the syringe is glass and crushed, and has that bitter, sweet smell emanating from it. there's a little bit of the solution in the blanket, but not much.

baraqiel straightens near the door. they don't say anything, so you can double check things if need be. ]

[Kim will wrap the syringe in a handkerchief to bring back as evidence, along with as many shards as can reasonably be collected.]

Okay... glad we spotted this. Anything else in here?

He'll look under the bed, and check the kitchenette one last time, checking the counter and sink, appliances, and inside cupboards and the fridge.]

I'll check the bathroom again real fast. [ With Nagako as his guide! If not, Akira is good here. ]

[ last checks! nothing comes up in the bathroom or kitchenette, and nothing is underneath the bed or in the sink, appliances, fridge, or cupboards.

looks like anything that happened was swift, here, and the syringe is the only thing to find otherwise. ]

We don't wanna be scrambling at the last minute, so yeah. [ He'll leave it up to Kim to which room to go next! ]
