FAREWELL

ALL GOOD THINGS must come to a (golden) end
WELCOME TO THE LAND OF PROSPERITY

Morning comes, and the world is alive.

Rays of warmth gently reach out to a place that has never seen the sun, bringing with it more vivid color than the world has seen before. The sky is clear, free of clouds and smog and gray, a picturesque scene to welcome a new day, a new life. The voices of the harpies welcome the dawn for the first time with a soft but joyful song, their voices light and sanguine as they take to the skies to sing of freedom from the powers they've always feared and served.

Drawn out by the familiar voices of the harpy, lifted into something beautiful, something heartfelt, are the ghosts that were hidden within the caves. Despondent, hopeless, beaten down for aeon by the harpies, they peer out into the open world that the bomb's explosion created. They watch the sun rise on the Land of the Dead - a sun many have not seen since time forgotten - and there is new hope. Slowly, one by one, the ghosts of the long dead and recently dead alike, those that have been ferried across to the resting place created by the Authority, begin to walk out into the sun.

And, just like that, they begin to fade to Dust, smiles on their faces after so long in the dark. The gold drifts in the air, to rejoin the world anew. Free will, intention, knowledge - soul.

The Tree of Knowledge thrives in the light, the last of the Dust of angels a perfect fertilizer to make it grow and stand tall over the participants of a competition they never chose to join, its branches blooming with flowers of white. And the participants themselves, all of you...

You, too, are alive. The icy touch of the ghosts has faded into something more natural and warm. Color returns to faces, and even without the touch of magic, all wounds are healed. You are alive. Your story will continue, and your happy ending awaits.

It's just across the river, and Charon is ready to take you there, through clear air where the mists have lifted. And when you finally arrive...

...Your souls are here to welcome you home. Even those who have lost that part of themselves will find it again, waiting at the docks to find their way into your arms the very second you step out, another second away simply too much to bear. And at last, your daemons shift, one last time, to settle on a form you may or may not have seen before - and you know, in your hearts, that this is a good thing, something natural, something to celebrate, no longer the herald of trauma or some misdeed.

Beyond the docks, the suburbs buzz with an energy it hasn't seen before. The ghosts, like your own, feel more warm and solid and real. The lost and misguided have a spark of hope in their eyes, their delight at the changes in this world unmistakable as they point to something, a little further out. Follow their gazes, and you'll find the source of their excitement easily.

A window to another world. Two - three - and more. As one person reaches out, a city on the other side slowly changes to a field of flowers. A small village changes to a desert market, through which the merchants wave people to come in, come in, they'd love to see you. Through another window, an empty and barren world littered with rubble shimmers to instead show a world filled with water and memory, perfectly intact, and someone new steps into this world to embrace a familiar face among the crowd.

The windows stabilize, allowing everyone to come and go as they choose. The Land of the Dead is no longer a prison, after all - merely a waypoint, just another stop along a journey that need only end when wanderers are ready.

What some might call an end, after all, is often a new beginning.

Welcome, travelers, to your golden end.

Dead and alive both have been revived, injuries healed, and powers returned to normal. Your daemons have all returned to you, though they will settle into one form, and will no longer shift - though this form does not have to be one of the three taken over the course of the game, and may yet be something new entirely.

Keep your coins! A new symbol has taken the place of the clock face or comet that marked your teams - a great, blooming tree. With that, you will be able to return to the Land of Prosperity at any time, and visit any other world that you wish to see.

Your characters are free to continue their stories however they choose - in their own world, or another.

[WAH JESUS CHRIST HELLO

lup squawks, and then absolutely catches her with a startled laugh.]

Oh - oh, hey, baby girl, hello?

...hello!

[sheba is just going to go with that, because she's so happy to see her again that she feels like she might cry. she buries her face in her shoulder and holds on tight.]

[awww, kiddo. she hugs sheba very tightly in return, absently bringing a hand up to stroke through her hair.]

It's okay. [lup hums - she's not sure what happened entirely, but. this is instinct.] I'm all good. You're all good. You're alive!

[a beat. her heart sort of clenches a bit, and she pulls sheba closer.] Ahh. Fuck.

You are, too...

[Sheba's voice is a little wavery, buy she clings onto lup tightly and buries her face into her shoulder.]

No more dying. For either of us.

[her daemon, whose settled form I haven't decided yet, comes up to nuzzle lup also

did you know I've had this tag on mobile and was so sure I sent it but then but then realized I'd hit preview instead of send]

[i'm crying britt

anyway, sheba's voice gets all wavery, and lup rests her head on top of sheba's, moving to gently rub her back. she's a little unsteady too - a lot has happened, a lot has been missed, and she keeps thinking about waking up to sheba dead. she sucks in a breath, and closes her eyes.]

No more dying, not ever. [lup says, with a touch of teasing, trying to lighten the atmosphere between them.] You promised me an adventure, you know.

[sheba's daemon nuzzles her, and lup reaches down to pet - just as a weasel shoots out of her sleeve to tackle right into sheba's daemon, immediately trying to groom its ears.]

[it's fine. everything is fine.

watching lup slowly succumbing to homesickness and not being able to do anything about it had been awful. sheba's sure it must have been even harder for the people who were right there with her, but there's a certain amount of helplessness in only being able to see something through a screen.

but it's fine. she's here now, alive.]

I did. [she sniffles.] Good thing there are countless places we can go for adventures, now...

[aura is a djinni, because i just couldn't think of anything that worked better, and makes a pleased little trill before nuzzling against the weasel.

wait, weasel? ...she has a daemon now? she has a daemon now!!! aaaaaa!!]

[yeah!! she has a daemon now!! and that daemon wriggles and koala clings to aura, chittering happily.]

For sure. Looks like everything opened up. [lup leans back just a little to very gently and carefully wipe any tears away from sheba's eyes, and gives her a little smile.]

I bet you don't want to be too far from Kaeya and Diluc, right? We can drag them along with us.

[...] I'll need to stop in Otamo first though! Clint is probably losing his whole-ass mind, and uh, you know, my brother too. Probably. Who knows, he might not even know I'm gone.

[stop, taako noticed]

[she smiles back at her. it's fine! everything is fine. well, it might not be yet - they're all still just coming out of this - but they've got time, now, to heal and to move on from the trauma of, you know, dying.

aura makes a noise that almost sounds like a giggle and hovers in the air a little bit, then gives a spin to twirl lup's daemon around. hold on tight!]

I don't, no. I'm... going to help Rochalizo with a few things in his world, and I think Susato is coming too. But I'm going to be seeing Diluc and Kaeya very often. Yuri, too.

But I'd like to go back to Otamo with you. ...I'd like to meet your brother. [a beat.] ...hey, do you think Itadori's okay?

[im sorry flurry]

[BRITT]

I'm uh, not full of magical powers or anything, but if you all need an extra hand helping Rochalizo out, I'd volunteer.

[chaa the weasel squeaks and does, in fact, hold on tightly, wiggling excitedly. as for the rest, lup just gives her an amused, knowing look.]

Yuji is probably doing fine, sure. Bet he thinks about you a lot. [tease, tease.]

It's always helpful to have people you can trust along! That's what I think, anyway.

[aura will absolutely not let chaa go, but she will land so they stop spinning after a little while to avoid getting too dizzy.]

...I think I need to apologize to him. I lost the pocketknife he gave me.

[it poofed after trial. :c ]

[chaa yawns! big yawn, tippy tappy feets, and then settles on aura to nap.]

That's fine, it just means both of you can go look for another one. [headtilt.] Hua Cheng said the people in Otamo can probably move back into the city, so uh... lots of old garbage to find.

Good! That's a relief...

[imagine living in the city instead of underground or near a water mill. wild.]

...though it'll probably be kind of strange for them after all this time, don't you think?
