WEEK SIX MINGLE

kings: week 6 mingle the big orange
22 Remain

Another week, another world to explore. Once again, waking brings you to unfamiliar surroundings, the bitter touch of Nerak cold fading to the more mild weather of autumn. The sound of cars or people talking or faint music greets your ears, no matter the time of day or night, and the light pollution is intense. Hope you weren't counting on seeing the stars.

Welcome to Kings, where you'll have your pick of shopping, entertainment, cute date spots, or just about anything else that you can think of! The city has something to offer for everyone. You'll never be wanting for things to do here - just try not to get lost in the subways. The locals may not be the most willing to help out.

Waiting for you to join them in the main plaza of Star Circle are Baraqiel, Shamsiel, and Suriel. You might have to push your way through the crowds to reach them properly, but no one's blinking an eye at your Watchers today. There are other people in costume hanging around already. What's a few angels to add to the antics?

Suriel greets everyone with their usual cheerful smile, fox daemon pressed close to their ankles to avoid getting lost in the crowd. "I bet this world reminds a bunch of you of home, huh? Let's all make the most of it while we're here!"

Baraqiel heaves a sigh, daemon weasel-formed and half-hidden in the folds of their hood as it suspiciously squints at every noise its little ears pick up. "Speak for yourself." They do not seem 100% thrilled with this worldhop, come the new week, but do at least offer something to the travelers gathered. "For those of you less used to cities like this, there are motorized vehicles of varying sizes in Kings - try not to get run over by them."

With a soft laugh, Shamsiel will look at Baraqiel and gently pat them on their upper arm and their falconet daemon will then proceed to take flight from their shoulder. At least they seem to be relieved that Baraqiel gave them a warning for those who aren't going to be familiar with it. "And much like the previous worlds we've been to, please be mindful of what you end up doing here. We are just visitors, after all, and it'd be rude if we left it all a mess."

As for your effect of the week... Your past injuries have cleared, with no phantom pains left to haunt you, your loved ones, or your launders. Instead, you'll find that you are unable to speak dishonestly - any time you try, your words get stuck on the tip of your tongue and never quite make it out. It's honesty week, lads - no more lying to yourselves or anyone else.

Here's the letter that we found when our group was returning from our journey on Thursday. The journey itself was from another's memory so if you want details about it you can just ask the... three of us in private. [ ratshakes jan ]

To disobey the divine Authority is to commit sin. To commit more sins to weigh upon one's soul is to collect Dust, to lose more of their innocence, and that is what causes the daemon to settle. Only children remain free of this burden, until they reach the age that it can no longer be avoided. It is for their sake that we must commit this research, to protect our children and those of all worlds from the sins of their forefathers.

While it is the will of the Authority to free the worlds of this sin and the Dust that follows it, a simple undertaking it is not. For it is not something we can do over time; that will only allow margin for error for Dust to slip through. No, to truly claim a victory, to erase the concept of sin itself, it must be done all at once, with no allowance for mistakes.

[wow, this is so beyond infuriating, considering.]

"To protect our children", nevermind the children who aren't included in that "our".

Of course. Children are just numbers to them, in the end.

[personal profile] veraltwin 2021-11-08 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[As with last week, Alisaie's going to stand up and head to the front again (why does this keep happening!!!), arms folded as she looks out at all of them.]

I've two things to address today. [Which I, Abi, am splitting into two tags bc hahahahaha :')]

The first has to do with our journey into the Garden of Eden, which I detailed last week. At that time I stated that Uriel had asked us to find where "it" might be born anew.

"It" did not refer to the Kingdom of Heaven. "It" referred to something more tangible than that.

[She nods toward Rin.]

[personal profile] aono 2021-11-08 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[At the nod, Rin holds up what appears to be a cutting from a tree of some sort. The entire thing looks petrified though, leaves and all.]

Uriel cut this off of the tree that was growing in the Garden and gave it to us. They told us that the Lord Regent must not get it no matter what. And uh, I'm guessing they explained a lot more about it to Alisaie and Van Zieks too.

[Since he. Was not there for that part. But he'll leave it open for Alisaie to add any more details there.]

We're supposed to find somewhere new to plant this. When we plant it in the right place, it'll start growing. And until then, we have to keep it safe. The Lord Regent tried to kill us to get to it.

[personal profile] veraltwin 2021-11-08 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[But even though the cutting is petrified, it still feels alive. There's an energy to it that can't be denied--it's ancient, but somehow it's persisted.]

To my understanding, they had been nurturing this cutting from the Tree of Knowledge for millennia--since the original fall of the Garden.

They had used their own essence to ensure it did not die before it could be given to us.

Do we have any clues as to where is the "somewhere new" this must be planted?
aono: (43 - w)

[personal profile] aono 2021-11-09 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
All we got was that it should be somewhere that it can grow, and we need to be very careful about the spot we pick. Maybe someone else got a clue about that?

The place Furude Rika, Allen Walker, Herlock Sholmes, and I escaped was a Magisterium research facility, experimenting on children to eradicate Dust. The method sets up children from ages 11 to 17 or so, puts them into metal cages where their daemon would be separated from their human counterpart. A guillotine from what I believe is specialized metal would come down to sever the spiritual link between them.

This was how we witnessed a child die when the scenario tried to take control of Herlock Sholmes and I, then Furude Rika we tried to save, but was too late. Most children do not survive being severed from their daemon, but the scientists there believed this was the only way to truly free themselves from the angels forever, if they could find a way to be without Dust. The bomb is their last, but also likely resort, as very few survive "intercision."

This particular sect of the Magisterium is looking to destroy the Angels if they can't escape them. With the Dust collected from these children they sever, they are creating a bomb that would eradicate them, perhaps if it's large enough it could destroy all Dust.

The note received is another experiment report.
PROJECT – SHADOWS & GOLD
TEST #90
The Magis

Purpose: Does eradicating “gold” result in the destruction of Subject P.

Results: Extreme improvement from previous attempt. Detonation and elimination of desired target was highly successful. Test provided to yield results within the parameters expected with the standard deviation of 2%. Error margins due to lack of refinement in DNA supplied.

Short term effects provided to be successful. Long term effects are positive trending. Specific group sample required for more testing. Long term effects of testing still required.

Conclusion: Greater DNA samples required. New location needed.
To compare to an earlier report from the trip before.
PROJECT – SHADOWS & GOLD
TEST #24
The Magis

Purpose: Does eradicating “gold” result in the destruction of Subject A.

Results: Overall favorable. Detonation and elimination of desired target was mostly successful. Test provided to yield results within the parameters expected with the standard deviation of 5%. Error margins likely the result of the quantities of DNA supplied.

Short term effects provided to be successful. Long term effects unknown. Bigger sample required for more testing. Long term effects of testing required.

Conclusion: More testing required—new subjects needed. New location needed.
We also collected Rameel's items safely and they have accepted them.

To add onto this, please don't mistaken this as only a select few children. There was an entire room filled with them in cages that Miss Rika and I were led to when we were separated from Mr. Sholmes and Yoo Joonghyuk-ssi. Miss Rika was put onto the side of the room with the younger children while I was led to the side with the elder children.

I managed to get a scientist to talk about the experiments somewhat.

It's not just a matter of Dust, but the quality and quantity of the Dust. Supposedly, those who have committed more sins are the ones with a higher Dust concentrate, but it's the quality that they were more interested in.

Likely because the worse the sin, the higher the quality, the larger amount of energy would be generated from the severing of the link between child and their daemon.

Miss Rika was selected for experimentation because of these reasons.

Which is why... I feel it's very important to state my opinion that while we need to find a way to reunite with those who have died, it is us the living who are the most in danger due to what I believe these murders and executions might be leading us toward--being weaponized, in other words.

[personal profile] malewife 2021-11-09 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
... The scientists there did mention it was too late for adults to be free of sin and be free of the angels, which is why they choose children.

I believe they were refining their tracking to seek angels and eliminate them.

It's wholly ridiculous because the whole things about Sin is that we are, supposedly, born into it!

[JUST. HE'S SO?! ANGRY?!]

It makes everything about what that note Kim Dokja-ssi found seem like poor justification for the cruelty and abuse and suffering they're orchestrating!

[Hm. Bad.]

But...the angels are the ones doing this, aren't they? If these scientists are trying to build a bomb to destroy all Dust, which would destroy the angels too, then why would the angels cooperate and put us through all of this?

Angels are messengers of God. They do as they are told by the Authority--whether it be His Benevolence or His Wrath.

You know the stories, don't you?

That's why.

This could be another... Flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, Egypt--take your pick.

Man was made from the Earth, from Dust. It only follows, then... if a group is trying to destroy God--the Authority, then of course...

But this is my theorizing. This is a conflict, after all.

[personal profile] aono 2021-11-09 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
But those calamities came from God, right? It sounds like this is coming from people, not God. You'd think God would intervene before a group could destroy it.

I believe you are precisely correct—that the Dust of those killed is being harnessed into a weapon. We are wrapped up into a war, after all, and if one side has the means to destroy the other...

We are a means to their end, and not in the way we had initially imagined.

Yet with every death, we are inadvertently tipping the scales into one side's favor. If we continue as we are, we are soon going to be left with a clear winner.

If we were to somehow stop this war on the morrow, for example, I wonder if that unbalance would affect the outcome of it.
