WEEK FIVE MINGLE

nerak: week 5 mingle at your service
25 Remain

Waking up this morning will reveal some unfamiliar surroundings. While Camebit had an autumnal chill in the air, things are a little different, now - the air is frigid, and waking up is an adventure, considering you are swaddled to the nines and cozied right up to your roomie of the week (where you have one, anyways). Everything around you is made of ice and packed snow, fogged glass and porcelain, and it is freezing. Who thought this was a good idea? Even the brisk chill of Camebit in the skies above everything was more forgiving than this! This isn't a transition! Whose manager can you speak to..?

About that.

You have to trek out of the lodging, and over into the building made of actual wood and stone, to actually see your Watchers of the week. They're all dressed in their full cloaks again to combat the chill, even in this building, although both Rameel and Satariel are standing much closer to Yomiel than they usually do - much like they had in Ahnkeen, actually.

"Good morning and welcome to Nerak! If you've ever wondered what it was like to stay at an ice hotel, then you're in luck!" Rameel says with moderate flourish as they make sure to keep close to Yomiel—their daemon currently not found anywhere near them as they make the announcement. Looks like they're without their black box of musical wonders this morning.

While the other two Watchers press close, Yomiel's daemon has wrapped itself around their neck like a polecat scarf. Warm. Arm cradled gently against their chest, they pause to glance at Satariel before greeting everyone. "Try to be careful. The ice can get slippery, especially when you're all looking like that and leaving a mess everywhere you go." Whatever that means.

Satariel seems a little more subdued than usual but offers everyone a smile, daemon bear-shaped against their back, large head peering around at everyone while they take in the travelers that come to join them here in the hotel lobby. Their cloak is completely closed around them - not even the front of their dress can be seen, and they're clearly holding it tightly shut. "Please be nice to the hotel staff - if I catch any of you being rude to them, I'll kick you clear across the tundra before sticking you in their outdoor 'jail' for timeout. We're guests, but they're working hard to accommodate us, alright?"

With the new week, travelers will find that they no longer the adorable animal features they did in Camebit, but something much less cute. Injuries from their pasts have come back to haunt them, major or minor, and they cannot be healed. The good thing is that they don't seem to hurt or really take a toll on the travelers at all - at least, not until they're touched, and then both you the other will feel the pain from the moment the wound was inflicted. This effect lasts all week.

Infodump from the Dead

It looks like these were sent yesterday. I've posted them back up for reference.

[If the staff took these down yesterday, oh well. There are now copies posted in view for all.]

Some appear to mention the Magisterium. Mr. Kaburagi and I tried inquiring about them back in Ahnkeen. From what we gathered, they're said to be a group of people who were obsessed with angels. "Higher beings." And they were experimenting with dangerous projects -- things that would be considered heresy. We were advised to be careful who we talk to about the Magisterium's experiments.

Miss Monika said in an earlier report that it sounded like they were planning on contacting "higher beings"...

If anyone has more information about the Magisterium, now would be the time to share. Other than that... what can we make of this?

[Almost immediately, Alisaie will be pointing at the second note. Poor Taf is working hard on seeing eye daemon duty.]

"X," I believe, stands for the Celestials. "M" almost certainly stands for the Temporals, and I believe the rest of this sentence to say that they are "acting ostensibly on behalf of all Angels." In the third note, they theorize him to be the Lord Regent I spoke of earlier this week.

Hm. I thought it might be "acting ostensibly on behalf of the Authority"...

I think you may be right about this. A distinction between the rebellious angels and those acting ostensibly on behalf of God - the Celestials and Temporals.

[A frown.]

That could be another reading, yes. I tended toward "Angels" because of Uriel's words--they could not tell us whether the angels were following this Authority or a different entity. Given their seeming alignment with the Lord Regent's goals...

[WHO KNOWS.]

If the Temporals are the Authority, that is, God, could 'M' not refer to an angel acting on God's behalf? Michael, or Metratron?

[personal profile] perfectdistance 2021-11-04 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's supposed to be Metatron? I hear that angel is supposed to be the "voice of god".

[Nods.]

I think you are quite right, Mr. Turner. And it tracks with what Alisaie spoke of. The angels are following this other entity, Metatron. He speaks ostensibly on behalf of God - but ostensibly would suggest lack of certainty on whether he is really acting on God's behalf. Uriel's doubts of whether the angels are really following the Authority would fit with this.

If we think about the note our group brought back, "The Authority is not the Creator it claims to be. It is easy to fall victim to their lies, as one of the eldest beings of this universe. Xaphania is no exception, and to have one's pride wounded is to no longer seek understanding."

So puttin' it together, it sounds like Metatron is only pretending to be God.

[personal profile] booksleeves 2021-11-04 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Or perhaps even 'God,' the Authority, never created anything to begin with?

[Hmm.]

It is that second part I wonder about. If Xaphania believes the Authority's lies even though they rebelled against it, what does this mean? That they are angry, but refuse to believe the Authority does not have the power to meet their demands?

Inquisition will eliminate all those deemed . . . something, corrupted by something. Like someone said, can reach all our worlds?

I think... The first note says somethin' like this:

Xaphania Celestial
Metatron Temporal, acting ostensibly on behalf of Authority.

Haven't seen you mention M outside Inquisition. May be important to know erasing information purposeful?

So... the Authority is what we're dealing with overall, but we just have his minion and the one that loathes him to get through first? Given they seem to be fuelling the conflict.

Anyway, I don't know much about any Inquisitions.

I had elaborated on the Magisterium previously, but I do think it well worth repeating it again.

[ i will be kind to pzue who was consumed by the dreaded real world ]

In short, they are an organization of religious intellectuals who hold the belief there is a way to permanently eradicate the angels—and I have good reason to suspect that is what their experiments involved. As it is difficult to get many to speak of their lot, I would advise that you carefully decide whom you approach, should anyone wish to discover more information.
booksleeves: (Enquire Within Upon Everything)

[personal profile] booksleeves 2021-11-04 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The pastor I spoke with this morning seemed to believe they worship angels, however. Is it really angels they're trying to eradicate?

Remnants of the Magisterium effect residents here. Currently wondering if can be controlled maybe? Lingering effects, possibility it's related to... [ he's just brainstorming that last letter. ]

Maybe this portion explains the contradiction Mr. Alphinaud and I noticed? If these remnants are conducting experiments to eradicate or control angels. . .

[personal profile] callalilies 2021-11-04 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That would make sense--the remnants of their experiments are here.

It seems like the line beneath it... Rationale as to why whatever these two redacted pieces can't enter.

"Angels need worship de-something-ces that stray. Regarding something-ent, only care about destroying each other."

Destroying places that stray? Like the worlds we've been to? But if they need to be worshipped somehow, perhaps that's also a weakness?
callalilies: webtoon. (❄️ hmmmm.)
